The National Trust has generously invited members of Players for Pleasure to perform for their visitors on several occasions.
Players for Pleasure very much appreciate the welcome given by the National Trust at two of their magnificent stately homes, Dyrham Park and Dunster Castle.
Dyrham Park in Gloucestershire is a spectacular 17th century mansion and deer park. Players for Pleasure has played in these wonderful surroundings on two occasions.
Dyrham Park's beautiful orangery was the setting for clarinet, flute and piano performances of lighter music from the golden era of song.
The hall at the heart of the mansion saw a full day of music performances, with piano, flute, singing, clarinet and recorder all taking their turn at filling the hall with classical music from the baroque to the romantic period.
The Great Hall, Dyrham Park
The weekend continued in a more light-hearted manner with a house party at a nearly cottage, where musicans of all levels came from all parts of country to enjoy making music together.
Dyrham House Party
Dunster Castle in Somerset soars above the streets of Dunster and creates a spectacular skyline with its dramatic turrets and towers.
Visitors entering this magnificent castle through the spacious Inner Hall were greeted with the sound of music from a variety of instruments including the piano, violin, flute, singing, cello, recorder and clarinet.
After touring the castle, visitors passed through Dunster Castle's luxuriant conservatory where the woodwind and string instruments provided background music from the baroque to the modern eras.
A special experience for the pianists was the opportunity to play the piano owned and donated by the late Vivian Ellis, composer of such mid-20th century hits as "Spread a Little Happiness" and the popular musical "Bless the Bride".
